Knights capture Beggs Tourney championship

The Henryetta Knights showcased their basketball prowess at the Beggs Invitational Basketball Tournament, clinching the championship with a series of impressive performances that culminated in a thrilling one-point victory over Tulsa Memorial. The Knights’ path to the title highlighted their resilience, teamwork and determination to succeed.

— A Dominating Start

Henryetta opened the tournament with a commanding 68-38 victory over the Lexington Bulldogs on Thursday. The Knights came out strong, building a 31-17 lead by halftime and maintaining their momentum throughout the game. Their stifling defense and consistent scoring kept Lexington at bay, setting the tone for the rest of the tournament.

— Johnson Shines Against Beggs

On Friday, the Knights faced the host team, the Beggs Demons, in a semifinal matchup. Nakona Johnson led the charge, scoring 16 points in a 56-47 win. Henryetta’s aggressive start saw them outscore Beggs 18-8 in the first quarter and establish a 3020 halftime lead.

Skylar Greenhaw added 13 points, including two three-pointers, while Talon Weaver contributed 12 points. Other scorers included Gavin Williams (7 points), Bishop Berryhill (4 points), Isaac Whitlock (2 points), and Maverix Randleman (2 points). The Knights’ balanced offense and ability to sustain pressure secured their place in the finals.

— A Thrilling Victory Over Tulsa Memorial in the Finals The championship game on Saturday against Tulsa Memorial was a nail-biter, with the Knights edging out a 53-52 victory in a back-and-forth battle featuring nine lead changes. Henryetta’s persistence paid off when Talon Weaver sank a crucial free throw to give the Knights the lead for good.

Skylar Greenhaw delivered a standout performance, scoring 27 points, including six three-pointers. The Knights were efficient inside the paint, shooting 13-26 on two-point attempts, and deadly from beyond the arc, going 7-18. Weaver added 14 points, while James Joslin, Nakona Johnson, and Gavin Williams contributed 5, 4, and 3 points, respectively.

— Looking Ahead

Fresh off their championship victory, the Henryetta Knights will face the Eufaula Ironheads on the road this Tuesday. The Knights’ success at the Beggs Invitational has bolstered their confidence and proven their ability to perform under pressure, setting high expectations for the rest of the season.
