County wrestlers shine at events across region

Okmulgee County wrestlers made their mark in multiple tournaments last week, showcasing incredible talent, perseverance, and skill. From dominating championship runs to standout performances in junior high divisions, these athletes demonstrated why the county is becoming a wrestling powerhouse.

Zechariah “Boobie” Tecumseh was the lone Wilson wrestler competing at the Morey Villarreal Tournament at Will Rogers High School in Tulsa. Tecumseh had an outstanding day, going 4-0 to claim his first championship of the season and improve his record to 12-4.

In Round 1, Tecumseh defeated a #9-ranked 4A state qualifier from Hilldale by major decision, 17-7. In the quarterfinals, he secured an 18-1 technical fall victory in 2:49 over a Skiatook opponent.

Advancing to the semifinals, Tecumseh overcame an undefeated #10-ranked wrestler from Crossings Christian with a 9-4 decision. In the finals, he dominated a competitor from Greenwood High School (Arkansas) in a 15-5 major decision.

In total, Tecumseh outscored his opponents 5917.

The Wilson Tigers wrestling team will return in two weeks at the Maverick Conference Tournament as they aim to make history by becoming the first state qualifiers for Wilson.

Henryetta’s wrestling team brought just four athletes to the Morey Villarreal Tournament but achieved an impressive 6th-place finish out of 17 teams.

• 165 lbs: Jason Powders (3rd place) went 5-1, with his only loss coming against the eventual tournament champion in a 14-9 battle.

• 190 lbs: Tayler Hamric (Champion) went 4-0, including three wins by pin.

• HWT: Jordyn Miller (Champion) also went 4-0, pinning all four of his opponents.

The Knights are gearing up for their next competition, set for Monday at Dewar.

Junior high wrestlers from Morris made their presence felt at the Wagoner Junior High Tournament: • 117 Girls Division: Chyla Marris (2nd Place)

• 132 Boys Division: Kaden McClain (4th Place) — Dewar

At the Madill Middle School Wrestling Tournament, Tripp Martin stole the show, clinching a 1stplace finish for Dewar.

At the Thrill in Madill High School Wrestling Tournament, the following Dragon athletes were outstanding in their division:

• Emmy Hall, 3rd Place

• Kylie Davis, 4th Place

• Cash Faulkner & Clark Hotema, 3rd Place
