Diana Gabaldon, American author of historical fiction, romance, mystery, adventure and science fiction/fantasy, celebrates her birth date as Jan. 11, 1952, in Williams, Ariz.
Her father was an Arizona State Senator from Flagstaff for 16 years. He was of Mexican ancestry while her mother was of English descent. Diana grew up in Flagstaff and has a bachelor of science in Zoology from Northern Arizona University and a master of science in Marine Biology from the University of California and a PhD in Behavioral Ecology from Northern Arizona University.
Before beginning to write full-time, Diana wrote software reviews, computer publication articles and Disney comics. She also spent 12 years as a professor at Arizona State University in scientific computation.
Best known for her Outlander Series, she is now working on book 10, and a television conversion of the Outlander novels came out on Starz in 2014. She has a vast following of readers with more than 50 million of her books being published in 38 languages and in 114 countries around the world.
Diana and her husband now live in Scottsdale, Ariz. with two dachshunds, two cats, parakeets and a lot of uninvited wildlife. They have three grown children.
