OCCJA Executive Director appointed to ACA role

The Okmulgee County Criminal Justice Authority (OCCJA) is proud to announce that Executive Director Shannon T. Clark has been elected by his peers to serve as one of the esteemed Commissioners on Accreditation for Corrections in the American Correctional Association (ACA). Clark’s role will focus on adult detention, making him the only elected official representing Oklahoma on the ACA Commission.

This prestigious appointment not only honors Director Clark’s remarkable contributions to the field of detention but also exemplifies his dedication to promoting industry-wide excellence and ethical standards. In addition to his role as Executive Director of OCCJA, Director Clark will participate in two annual conferences, where he will collaborate with his colleagues to explore and discuss approaches to improving adult detention practices.

The ACA, one of the most revered institutions in the corrections field, serves as a beacon for professionalism, integrity, and the advancement of correctional practices nationwide. The organization’s accreditation program stands as the gold standard for detention facility evaluation, aiming to ensure the highest levels of safety, accountability, and effectiveness. To be elected as a Commissioner on Accreditation is to be entrusted with the profound responsibility of guiding the accreditation process for facilities across the nation.

Director Clark’s election by his peers underscores the respect and admiration he commands among his colleagues in detention. He has been a transformative figure at OCCJA, tirelessly advocating improvements in facility standards, staff training, and inmate integration into self-reflection.
