Fastpitch softball districts get realignment for next two seasons
The 2023 fastpitch softball season is scheduled to get underway on Monday, August 7.
For the next two seasons, beginning with the 2023 campaign, the Oklahoma high school teams that compete in Classes 2A-6A will find themselves in realigned district assignments.
Class 2A will be made up of 16 districts, consisting of four teams each, except District 9, which will only have three teams.
Class 3A will be made up of 8 districts, consisting of seven teams each, except for the first three districts, which will feature six teams each.
Classes 2A-4A will begin postseason play with regional tournaments, followed by super regional tournaments and state tournaments.
Regional tournaments for Classes 2A and 3A will take place September 21 and 22, followed by the super regional tournaments September 28 and 29 and the state tournaments October 5-7.
The regional tournaments in Class 4A will take place September 28 and 29, followed by the super regional tournaments October 5 and 6 and the state tournament October 12-14.
Classes 5A and 6A will feature two postseason tournaments – regional and state. The regional tournaments in Classes 5A and 6A will take place October 5 and 6 and the state tournaments October 12-14. Classes A and B will not feature district standings and will begin postseason play with district touraments, followed by regional tournaments and state tournaments. The district tournaments in Classes A and B will take place September 21 and 22, followed by regional tournaments September 28 and 29 and the state tournaments October 5-7.
The realigned districts will affect five of the eight Okmulgee County fastpitch teams. Preston will compete in Class 2A, while the other four county teams in district play – Okmulgee, Henryetta, Beggs, and Morris – will compete in Class 3A.
The other three county teams – Dewar (Class A), Wilson (Class B), and Schulter (Class B) – will not compete against district opponents for the next two seasons.
For the next two seasons, the Preston Lady Pirates will compete in District 2A-13. The Lady Pirates were part of District 2A-7 the past two years, along with Dale, Gore, Mounds, Porter, Rejoice Christian, Stroud, and Warner. In its new district, the Preston squad will be joined by district foes Mounds and Rejoice Christian and Pawhuska, who was part of District 2A-2 the past two seasons.
The past two years, Beggs, Morris, Henryetta, and Okmulgee were part of District 3A-7, along with Eufaula, Holdenville, and Haskell. Beggs and Morris will remain in 3A-7, while Henryetta and Okmulgee will move to 3A-8 for the next two seasons.
The Lady Demons and Lady Eagles will be joined in 3A-7 by five new teams – Chandler (3A-4), Kellyville (3A-1), Lincoln Christian (3A-5), Prague (3A-3), and Sperry (3A-6).
Eufaula will join the Lady Knights and Lady Bulldogs in the newly realigned 3A-8, along with Heavener – the only remaining team in 3A-8, Roland, Spiro, and Vian, who were all part of 3A-6 the past two seasons.
